Parked just south of T junction on minor road to north of All Cannings. Headed west along roadside for about two hundred metres then north onto bridleway. At first gate after about 150 metres took path to left and west of Clifford’s Hill. North west direction along side of hill then across open field. Path then climbed gradually between the hills to east and west. Increasingly muddy. Through another gate, continued to gain height, less muddy, views opened out to the east. Tempted to leave the path to head uphill directly to west but continued on path in northerly direction which then turned west near the top. Peering into field to high ground to south, no sign of pillar. Hmm. Wind strengthening and rain getting heavier. Nowhere to shelter. Crossed into field to aim for highest point, nothing, carried on in a southerly direction then just spotted the top of the pillar in the south east corner of the field against the fence. Clearly been moved. Bit of a shame but at least not destroyed. Cap missing. Fairly good views although low cloud and rain at the time.

Hard work to get to, up steep hill, but so worth it. Also, as mentioned previously, it has been moved to corner of the field. We walked all the way round the field to find it near to where we began. We just walked in the wrong direction. If you see the chalk "scar" in the distance, it is in front of that. On two of the nearby hills, there were paragliders which added to the theatre of the scenery. The weather was perfect. Clear blue sky and being October the low sun created amazing shadows on the dips and ridges in the hills.

Wow, this one's a bit high up isn't it? Is this the county top? [Googles] Oh, so close! Parked to the south, in a small layby in the road to the King's Arms. Beautiful walk up the Bruce Forsyth byway, through autumnal trees, across a stubbly field, and then up the grassy paths that wend their way along the steep hillsides. Had to stop to catch my breath a couple of times, but it was well worth it. A wooden frame has been placed along the hilltop fence where it leads down to the trig - it's shorter than the barbed wire and a little rickety, but it was enough to withstand seventeen-and-a-half stone of trigpointer clambering over it. Trigpoint clearly isn't in its original position, but it's in good condition, and it enjoys an incredible view over... well, pretty much most of southern England! Even on a grey and misty day like this, it's as impressive a sight as you'll see in this part of the country, and I took my time resting and taking it all in. Easily the highlight of the day.

Cows in the field today. There was a convenient A-frame-style stile at point 'A'. As others have noted, the trig has been moved to the corner of the fenced-off field, but apart from that, the trig was in good condition, all sightholes open, centrecap missing. Pity because the fields to the S and E are pasture, but there is a young crop in the field where the trig should be. This field also has a new barbed wire fence around it, which may have provided the excuse to lose the trig. Delightful stroll up from the S.

The pillar is sited in a large grass field on a flat summit in the Pewsey Downs; it has FB S2525 and lacks a cap or plug. Visited while on a walk that also included Adam’s Grave, Rybury Camp, Wansdyke and Walkers, Milk, Clifford’s, Tan and Knap Hills. From the pillar you can see Picked Hill and the Vale of Pewsey to the south with Salisbury Plain on the horizon. To the west are Roundway and Morgan Hills, with the Cotswolds on the skyline. North are the Marlborough Downs and Milk Hill lies to the east. From the Wansdyke Silbury Hill is clearly seen and from Knap Hill the view continues eastwards to Giant’s Grave, Martinsell and beyond. The terrain of my walk seemed to be one long succession of ancient lumps, bumps, barrows and dykes with fine views all the way.The thunder of artillery was often heard from the distant Salisbury Plain. Pewsey Downs SSSI covers part of the hillside. Skylarks were twittering over Milk Hill and numerous small birds were flocking in the sheltered dry valley below the scarp. There is a cut bench mark on the stone trough just inside the field on the opposite side of the road from Knap Hill car park.
