Padus avium

Padus avium is a common tree or shrub in the Low Beskid. It can be found on the forest-covered mountain slopes. White flowers appear in April or May. The flowers are very fragrant. The Low Beskid - Shore of the River Lubatowka - April 23, 2008.

Another score for homesickness

there are related species in America, but none which smells so sweet, and no nightingales there in the dark too!

I also like the sweet smell of Padus avium (czeremchy) especially in the evenings when its aroma is intensified by the light breeze. Henryk

Ys, it is the same word in Russian too, possibly derived from Sanskrit "kramukas"? In English I think it is known as a bird cherry, more traditionally classified as Prunus padus before it was moved into its seperate genus.
