Netmarble will not be changing much to the original features, including the nostalgic elements such as the sci-fi world view, giant robot mounts, wielding gigantic weapons, or the summoning of Animus.
...
However, it was mentioned that RF Project will "allow users to freely change their country or class" in order to enrich the game's "narrative."
Yeah, it looks like you can ride MAU regardless of race, which explains that trailer. I'm not sure about the free factions changing though, but I guess there should be some kind of limitations in place.Sorry to double and bump, found an article with a few more details + promo image
RF Project - Netmarble reveals first details for mobile game based on RF Online - MMO Culture
Korean gaming giant Netmarble held its annual “Netmarble Together with Press” or “NTP” event yesterday in South Korea, and as usual tons of Pay-To-Earn, blockchain, metaverse and whatnot news were mentioned. But we will just focus on the new “real” games announced, this time with RF Project...mmoculture.com
So perhaps "Races" are out, and we can swap "factions" at will? Interesting choice.
Don't worry about bumping, this is fucking HUGE for me. RF Online was a big part of my formative MMO experienceSorry to double and bump, found an article with a few more details + promo image

I was Bellato Union (don't remember server), I loved (and still love) the idea of an MMO where you get to use a mech. I'm really happy that they've not only decided to bring that back, but it looks like they took the idea for Anthem's flight mode here, which would be WAY better used in an MMO imo.
Fucking weird timing, I just uploaded this from Sega's TGS 2005 DVD a couple days ago:
Thankfully Netmarble looks to be going more of an Action RPG MMO route (Think more TERA) with this reboot.Oh God RF Online was my first Korean MMO, the grind was insane.
Yooo no way! my first MMO. Me and my bro wrecked it with Accretia, used to love the game. Chip Wars were awesome.
This one looks so different.
ed: Best intro theme.
In every way this reboot feels like it will deliver what the original trailers did for the original MMO, and I'm so fucking here for it
"One" in RF Online must be the most bizarre and out of place OST in all of gaming, especially when paired with that trailer/CG movie.
What made it super weird for me is because it was originally used as an OST of a Japanese-Korean romance drama, Friends (2002). The song made way more sense in that context.

I remember reading about RF Online and the nature of the factions, it sounded so cool and uniqueOh man what a blast from the past. I didn't play RFO but I remember it amongst the swarm of F2P KMMOs that flooded the market back in the 00s. They were all massive grindfests but there was some fun to be had that still gives me a slight nostalgia tug.
Here's to hoping this turns out good!
There's some Cora in there (check the Elf looking lady underneath the ship) and the thing behind the Bellato might be a summon (Cora and Bellato working together to face down an unknown enemy)RF online was a grindy, poorly balanced, pay to win mess.
I've spent so many hours in this game… Ah, my childhood.
This trailer looks nothing like old RF. Does it only focus on Bellato? Where are all the mages?
