For the smaller penguin Amigurumi, I used sport weight cotton yarn, for the larger version, I used chenille Super Bulky plush yarn.

Materials:
These are the materials that I used for this penguin You can replace them with other materials. If you wish to crochet a larger or smaller version of this mini penguin, you can just use a thicker or thinner yarn/crochet hook.

Cotton Sport Weight version 6 cm / 3 inch:
– Blue Yarn and Colors must have color: 065 or Pink Yarn and Colors must have color 037
– White Yarn and Colors must have color 001
– Yellow Yarn and Colors must have color 014
– Orange Yarn and Colors must have color 016
– Safety eyes 7 mm
– Synthetic Poly Filling
Crochet hook size 2.5 mm

Hat:
– Green Yarn and Colors must have color 085
– Light Green Yarn and Colors must have color 081
Flower:
– Pink Yarn and Colors must have color 037
– Green Yarn and Colors must have color 085

Chenille Super Bulky version 12 cm / 5 inch:
– Blue Chenille yarn or Pink Chenille yarn

Tapestry needles with blunt point, nr. 16
– Pins

TIP: Are you using are using Blanket yarn? Then I recommend a 8.0 mm crochet hook.
For Bulky Velvet yarn I recommend a 3.5 mm crochet hook.

Free Penguin Crochet Pattern:

Body:

  • Start in blue yarn
  • Rnd 1: start 8 sc in a magic ring (8)
  • Rnd 2: inc 8 times (16)
  • Rnd 3: (sc, inc in next st) repeat 8 times (24)
  • Rnd 4: (sc in next 3 st, inc in next st) repeat 6 times (30)
  • Rnd 5: sc in all 30 st (30)
  • In the next round we are going to change colors. Hide the new yarn behind the last stitches in the first color (photo 1), change colors in the last stitch (photo 1&2). Before you start crocheting in the second color. Hide the first color behind a few stitches when crocheting in the second color (photo 4)

  • Mark the 11th and 18th stitch of round 8 with a stitch marker or piece of yarn,
    This will show you where to insert the safety eyes later.

  • Insert the safety eyes between rounds 8 and 9, in the stitches marked earlier.
    Embroider the beak between rounds 8 and 9, the beak is 3 stitches wide.

  • Rnd 13: sc in next 5 st, (white) sc in next 6 st, (blue) sc in next 7 st (18)
  • Rnd 14: sc in next 2 st, inc in next st, sc in next 2 st, (change to white yarn in the second sc of the increase) inc in the next st, sc in next 2 st, inc in next st, sc in next 2 st, (change to blue yarn in the second sc of the increase) inc in the next st, (sc in next 2 st, inc in next st) repeat 2 times (24)
  • Put stuffing in the head of the penguin.
  • Rnd 15: sc in next 7 st, (white) sc in next 8 st, (blue) sc in next 9 st (24)
  • Rnd 16: sc in next 8 st, (white) sc in next 7 st, (blue) sc in next 9 st (24)
  • Rnd 17: (sc in next st, dec) repeat 8 times (16)
  • Rnd 18: dec 8 times (8)
  • Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
  • Put stuffing in the body.
  • Finish the body by taking the last strand of yarn and sewing it through the front loops of every crochet stitch that you made in the last round. Pull the yarn tight to close the hole. Sew the remaining yarn in the body.

Wing 2x:

  • Use in blue yarn
  • Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
  • Rnd 2-3: sc in all 6 st (6)
  • Fasten off with slst, leaving a long tail for sewing.
    Sew the wings on round 14, on side of the body of the penguin amigurumi.

Feet 2x:

  • Use in orange yarn
  • Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
  • Fasten off with slst, leaving a long tail for sewing.
  • Sew the feet on round 17 and 18 with 1 stitch between both feet.

Ball on hat:

  • Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
  • Rnd 2: (sc, inc in next st) repeat 3 times (9)
  • Rnd 3: (sc in next st, dec) repeat 6 times (6)
  • Fasten off with a slst, leaving a long tail for sewing.
    Finish the ball by taking the last strand of yarn and sewing it through the front loops of
    every crochet stitch that you made in the last round. Pull the yarn tight to close the hole.
    Sew the ball on top of the hat.

Flower:

  • Start with green yarn
  • Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
  • Do not cut off the green yarn, you need to use this to sew the flower on the penguin.
  • Change color to orange
  • Rnd 2: (slst + hdc + hdc + slst in next st) repeat 6 times.
  • Fasten off and sew the flower on the penguin.
