Belle the Butterfly Amigurumi

Crochet a very cute butterfly amigurumi animal with this free butterfly crochet pattern. This is an easy small beginner crochet project that you can make in a few hours. It is a great pattern for left over yarn. Crafting tiny Amigurumi brings me much joy due to their quick creation process. The end result? Adorably gifts that are simply delightful.

I made the small keychain size version from sport weight cotton yarn. However, you can also crochet the butterfly from bigger yarn. For example, plush chenille yarn will make your small Amigurumi bigger and very huggable.

For the smaller butterfly, I used sport weight cotton yarn, for the larger version, I used chenille Super Bulky plush yarn.

Materials:

These are the materials that I used. However, feel free to replace them with other materials of your choice. Furthermore, if you wish to crochet a larger or smaller version of the butterfly using this free amigurumi pattern, you can simply use a thicker or thinner yarn and crochet hook.

Cotton Sport Weight version 10 cm / 4 inch:
– Yellow Yarn and Colors Must have: 15 – Mustard or cat ania cotton color – 249
– Dark Pink Yarn and Colors Must have: 40 – Pink Sand or catania cotton color – 2 25
– Pink Yarn and Colors Must have: 48 – Pastel Pink or catania cotton color – 246
– Black Yarn and Colors Must have: 100 – Black or catania cotton color – 1 10
– Synthetic Poly Filling
– Crochet hook size 2.5 m m

Chenille Super Bulky version 22 cm / 9 inch:
– Pink Chenille yarn
– Dark Pink Chenille yarn
– Yellow Chenille yarn
– Synthetic Poly Filling
– C rochet hook size 5.0 m

Supplies:
– Scissors
– Tapestry needles with blunt point, nr. 16 or 17
– Pins

TIP: Are you using are using Blanket yarn? Then I recommend a 8.0 mm crochet hook.
For Super Bulky Chenille yarn I recommend a 5.0 mm crochet hook.

Rnd: Round
st: stitch
sc: single crochet
sl st: slip stitch
dec: decrease
inc: increase

Free Butterfly Crochet Pattern:

Body:

Use pink yarn
Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
Rnd 2: inc 6 times (12)
Rnd 3: (sc, inc in next st) repeat 6 times (18)
Rnd 4: (sc in next 2 st, inc in next st) repeat 6 times (24)
Rnd 5: (sc in next 3 st, inc in next st) repeat 6 times (30)
Rnd 6-7: sc in all 30 st (30)
Rnd 8: (sc in next 4 st, inc in next st) repeat 6 times (36)
Rnd 9-11: sc in all 36 st (36)
Rnd 12: (sc in next 4 st, dec) repeat 6 times (30)
Rnd 13: (sc in next 3 st, dec) repeat 6 times [24]
Rnd 14: (sc in next 2 st, dec) repeat 6 times (18)
Rnd 15: (sc in next 4 st, dec) repeat 3 times (15)
Sew the eyes over round 10 and 11, one with 6 stitches between both eyes.

Change to dark pink yarn
Rnd 16: sc in all 15 st (15)
Rnd 17: (sc in next 2 st, inc in next st) repeat 5 times (20)
Stuff the body with toy fiber filling and continue stuffing as you go.
Change to pink yarn
Rnd 18-21: sc in all 20 st (20)
Rnd 22: (sc in next 2 st, dec) repeat 5 times (15)
Rnd 23: (sc in next st, dec) repeat 5 times (10)
Rnd 24: dec 5 times (5)
Fasten off with a slst, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Finish the body by taking the last strand of yarn and sewing it through the front loops of every crochet stitch that you made in the last round. Pull the yarn tight to close the hole. Sew the remaining yarn in the body.

Antenna 2x:

Start with pink yarn
Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
Rnd 2: (sc in next st, inc in next st) repeat 3 times (9)
Rnd 3: sc in all 9 st (9)
Rnd 4: (sc in next st, dec) repeat 3 times (6)
Change to dark pink yarn
Rnd 5-6: sc in all 6 st (6)
Fasten off with a slst, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Sew the antennae on round 4 and 5 of the head.

Wings 2x:

Wing Top Part 2x:

Start with yellow yarn
Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
Rnd 2: inc 6 times (12)
Rnd 3: (sc in next 3 st, inc in next st) repeat 3 times (15)
Rnd 4-5: sc in all 15 st (15)
Rnd 6: (sc in next 3 st, dec) repeat 3 times (12)
Rnd 7: sc in all 12 st (12)
Rnd 8: (sc in next 2 st, dec) repeat 3 times (9)
Rnd 9: sc in all 9 st (9)
Rnd 10: (sc in next st, dec) repeat 3 times (6)
Fasten off with a slst, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Sew round 10 of both top wings together (photo 1 & 2).

Wings Bottom Part 2x:

Use yellow yarn
Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
Rnd 2: inc 6 times (12)
Rnd 3-4: sc in all 12 st (12)
Rnd 5: (sc in next 2 st, dec) repeat 3 times (9)
Rnd 6: sc in all 9 st (9)
Rnd 7: (sc in next st, dec) repeat 3 times (6)
Fasten off with a slst, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Finish the bottom wings parts of the butterfly amigurumi by taking the last strand of yarn and sewing it through the front loops of every crochet stitch that you made in the last round. Pull the yarn tight to close the hole.
Sew the bottom wing parts below the top wings parts. (Photo 3 & 4)

Dot on wing 4x:

Use dark pink yarn
Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
Fasten off cleanly, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Sew the dots on the top part of the wings (on the back and the front) over rounds 3 and 4.
