It’s been some time since we last heard from pop superstar Ivy Levan. After a stellar performance as Trixie, the Usherette in Fox’s Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do the Time Warp Again in 2016, the “Biscuit” singer hasn’t released any new music.
But after a brief hiatus, the singer is ready to give fans a healthy dose of her incredibly powerful voice. With the release of her new EP FUCC IT (out now), Levan is back with some new tracks that might surprise her fans. With emotional songs such as “Alive,” a track written in honor of a friend who died, and dialed-back bops like “Her,” the singer has grown, refined and evolved her sound.

“I feel like it’s still pop, of course,” Levan said. “It still has my aesthetic and every song is a little off-kilter and not too cookie-cutter. I mean, it’s just Ivy! It’s real and it’s coming from a place of truth.”
With a focus on transparency and vulnerability, Levan wanted her songs to reflect a lot of the different experiences she has gone through over the past few years.
“I’m a human being and we all change and go through different experiences in life, and that’s exactly what this is,” Levan said. “It’s just another chapter where I’m at currently. I think I’m at a more raw phase in my life, and I wanted to channel that into my music and be authentic as possible for my listeners. What I’m doing is not any different from when I was making dance music. Nothing’s really changed; I’m just at a different part of my life at the moment.”
Despite the rawness, Levan wants to continue delivering fans a fun experience when she goes on tour to promote the EP. But aside from FUCC IT, the pop singer had plenty of fun memories and opinons she had no problem sharing. From her favorite song from Rocky Horror Picture Show to an embarassing moment during a live performance involving a large wig and a small doorframe, Levan gave us all the fun details that fans might not know about her.
Favorite song from Rocky Horror Picture Show: Obviously the one that I did! “Science Fiction/Double Feature.”
First celebrity crush: Oh my God, I think it was Jenny McCarthy. I had a poster of her in a silver bikini and it made me feel things in my downstairs region and I didn’t understand why.
Favorite song to cover: “Black Velvet” by Alannah Myles is always my karaoke go-to whenever I want to bring down the house.
Bold lip or bold eyeshadow: I go pretty natural beige-y on the lip. I would definitely say a bold eye. I don’t like lipstick that’s too dark. If anything, I’ll do a red lip, but I always like a bold eye, for sure.
Most used Emoji: Probably the drooly mouth guy that he looks like he’s drugged up or horny. I use it for everything because it’s literally me all the time. It’s so versatile.
The last song you listened to: “Pony” by Ginuwine.
Best thing about Arkansas: I miss the seasons. I definitely miss having an actual fall and spring. It gets to be a little Groundhog Day in LA with the weather. Other than that, I’m a city girl. I’m an LA girl.
Favorite ice cream flavor: I’m more of a fro-yo person, especially if it’s vanilla and I get to dump a bunch of marshmallow sauce on it. But if I had to pick an ice cream flavor it would be peppermint.
Last show binged: The Office.
Funny live performance memory: It was either in Baltimore or Boston, and my intro had very dramatic music. An organ was playing and it was all creepy and stuff, which was typical for me. I had this entrance where I come in from the side, and the organs get really loud and even more dramatic. But there was this low hanging doorway, and back then I used to wear a giant hairdo. So when I was walking out, my hair caught the top of the door, and it pushed me back and I fell straight on my ass in front of thousand of people. I got up and I was like “I’m alright!” and everyone just started cheering and laughing. So I think that was the most embarrassing thing that’s happened to me in front of a bunch of people onstage. Just me completely eating the ground in front of thousands of people.
