As you can tell I did give it a chance, and I'm happy to report Flatout 2 is alive and well inside of Ultimate Carnage. In fact, all the same cars and tracks are in here. There are changes to the game, but in general they're all improvements. Most notable are better graphics, more racers (from 8 to 12), a couple new cars, and the option of using a MANUAL TRANSMISSION. That's a very big deal to a die hard of the racing genre.
The game isn't perfect though. The soundtrack is pretty good, but repetitive. A great soundtrack would include the soundtrack from Flatout 2 and this one. The driving physics can make it hard to drive with precision, so yes it's still an arcade game. The upgrades aren't very realistic either. I've never heard of a clutch increasing top speed except here.
It's hard to believe before playing it, but even though dirt showdown is years newer, Flatout seems to have it beat easily.
This game seems to work with the wheel very well. I barely had to make any adjustments as it seemed to function as expected in the first race before any changes were made. The game mechanics seem to be legit between impacts, jumping off ramps and crashing into other vehicles.
The game sports 3 different classes with a multitude of cars per class. Each car houses different attributes such as speed, strength, weight, etc which you will want to carefully choose for your outings in series. All cars have the ability to be upgraded but unfortunately the upgrade system is lacking. All cars look to have the same available upgrades to boost your car's abilities
Each level contains anything from ramps to destructible items in the road, to running through outdoor patio areas. This can get extremely frustrating sometimes as the effects to your car seem to vary from time to time. For instance, if you hot a hanging piece of glass going off a ramp it might force your car to turn a little so your landing isn't straight or it may have no affect. I found myself trying to avoid hitting most objects as they usually screwed me over and caused me to lose a race or get hit so hard my car is destroyed during the race so I couldn't complete it. This is kind of catch 22 as you need to hit items to gain nitrous for your vehicle. You can acquire it other ways as well such as going off ramps or hitting other vehicles but some courses have very few jumps and many of the times after you land your car will decide it wants to turn in a direction you are not turning in. Jumps and destroying a rival racing car are the best ways to gain boost.
Overall my experience with the game was fun. There were some frustrations such as what I mentioned before with hitting items on the track but also I had many times where I would be way a head of the pack and then hit a light post on the last turn and it would completely spin me out and I would be facing the wrong direction or nose right in the wall. The next position driver would literally show up out of nowhere and take the win and by the time I got my car over the line I would be 4th or 5th. The CPU difficulty is just right except in these instances where they seem to have the superman pick up their car and rush them to the finish line with his super speed.
Being that Xbox 360 is an old generation game system now the game was less than $10 and worth every penny. For anybody who enjoys that Burnout type of destruction racing I am sure you would enjoy this game

------------
* Very nice physics.
* Very good graphics.
* Really great Challenge and Career mode.
* Extreme fun around every corner.
The only reason this game didn't get a 5/5 is, The challenge mode is a tad short, and the career doesn't have much of a point...Don't get me wrong, it's still great but...yeah...
Long story short - Buy this game
