Ulmus glabra 'Lutescens'

Golden Elm

Description

A medium-sized, fast growing, deciduous tree that is upward spreading when young, developing low branching and a rounded canopy with maturity. The new Spring foliage growth is egg-shaped with a serrated margin and pale lime green in colour, changing to bright greenish-gold in Summer and turning yellow in Autumn. Grows and colours best in full sun in moist well-drained soils but is adaptable to a wide range of site conditions. Tolerates air pollution. Water deeply during hot, dry periods but avoid waterlogged conditions. This is an impressive shade tree with lovely foliage contrast, making it a good choice for large gardens and parks where there is room for it to spread. No pruning to shape is required.
