Under a willow tree, grass doesn't grow very well. Instead, you might want to use dirt under the tree. After that, let the stems hang down on their own and keep things easy for yourself.
You shouldn't put this tree near a septic system, septic tank, drainage field, pool, water main, or underground water source. If you give it room, it will grow into a nice, pretty tree.
