Strawberry Cross Stitch Pattern Free Printable

Sharing is caring!

Create a Strawberry Cross Stitch Pattern with a Free Printable then turn it into a card to let someone know that they are BERRY Special to you! Anchor Embroidery Floss Spools and Stitchable Felt make it a quick and easy project even for beginners. I have been embroidering and stitching since I was young. My Gran was the OG crafter, teaching me all types of crafts back in the 1970s, and cross stitch was at the top of her list of favorites. I forgot how much I enjoy relaxing and counting the cross stitches.

Here's what you need to make a Stitched Strawberry Card:

.

Here's how to create a Strawberry Cross Stitch Card:

STEP ONE

To start the Strawberry Cross Stitch Pattern with Free Printable, gather all supplies. I love the new Anchor® Embroidery Floss Spools. The floss rolls smoothly off the spool and doesn’t tangle or knot when pulling out a length to work with. Storage is neat and tidy with spools, no more piles of tangled floss. Anchor® Stitchable Felt is perfect for beginners because the 7 squares per inch grid is already laser cut into the stabilized felt, so there is no need for a hoop.

STEP TWO

Using some standard grid paper from my stash, I created this free pattern from a strawberry doodle I drew. I love my Tombow Dual Brush Pens for creating patterns because they have a bullet tip (as well as the more popular brush tip). Using a color pallet that closely matches the Anchor Embroidery Floss Spools selected, I laid in the “X” according to where the highlights and lowlights would be. Download and print the Strawberry Pattern Cross Stitch below ⇓ The sentiment for the card I created is also included in this free printable.

STEP THREE

Thread an embroidery needle with Crimson Red, and following the printed pattern, begin stitching. Each square has a hole in all four corners, which when stitched diagonally in both directions creates the “X” pattern. For cross stitch you can either complete each cross and then move on to the next square, or complete a row of stitches in the same diagonal direction, and then come back in the opposite diagonal direction. I like to number the squares on my pattern horizontally and vertically, so I can keep track of the color placement. Thread China Rose embroidery floss onto a needle and continue stitching the strawberry pattern.

STEP FOUR

I like to start with the color that has the largest number of stitches and then work toward the color that has the fewest stitches. Thread an embroidery needle with Parrot Green, and following the printed pattern, fill in the light portion of the leaves. Thread Parrot Green Medium Dark embroidery floss onto a needle and continue stitching the darker sections of the leaf pattern.

STEP FIVE

Add large French Knots with Canary Dark, by wrapping the floss around the needle 6 times. These represent the strawberry seeds and I love the texture created with the mix of stitches. Carefully cut around the strawberry design with detail scissors. Since the Anchor Stitchable Felt is stabilized, it creates a firm base for any design. These small detail scissors from Fiskars are my go-to for all of my stitching projects.

STEP SIX

Apply the Strawberry Cross Stitch Pattern to the top center of an A2 vertically folded card base with E6000 Fabri-Fuse Fabric Glue. Place a heavy book on top of the card, and set it aside to dry. Cut out the sentiment “You're BERRY Special” with scissors from the free printable pattern sheet above. Apply Tombow Foam Tape to the back and attach to the bottom of the card, underneath the strawberry.

Send this strawberry cross stitch card to brighten someone's day. It is a keepsake that is suitable for framing. Now, if I had thought of it BEFORE I permanently glued the strawberry cross stitch to the card base, this would make a perfect ornament, bookmark, or even an accent for a tiered tray. I definitely want to create more of these cross stitched images, but will back them with felt before temporarily attaching them to a card base. My head is already swimming with Christmas ornament ideas.

  • I have not tried cross stitch yet, I recently picked up an embroidery piece I am trying. Who knows how it will turn out since sewing has not really been my thing so far. I keep trying new things and seeing how I like them. Thank you for sharing Beth, maybe cross stitch will work out, all the ladies in my family are pretty good at it.
