1965 Airstream Land Yacht Safari 22′ Travel Trailer

This 1965 Airstream Land Yacht Safari is a 22′ single-axle travel trailer that was acquired by the seller in 2013 and subsequently refurbished. Work involved repairing the rear subfloor, relocating the bathroom, refreshing the interior, installing an outdoor shower, and replacing the axle, air conditioner, plumbing, electrical components, and waste holding tanks. The trailer features a kitchenette, a dinette, a sofa, and a bathroom, while amenities include a Dometic refrigerator, a gas cooktop, a tankless water heater, and two power-operated ceiling vents. Mechanical equipment consists of dual propane tanks, a freshwater tank and pump, and a 600-watt power supply/charger. This Land Yacht Safari is offered with refurbishment records, accessories, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

Airstream introduced the Safari travel trailer in 1954 as an addition to the Land Yacht line. The aluminum-clad exterior of this example features six windows with snap-on shades, an extended rear bumper with an integrated storage compartment, an entry door with a hinged screen panel, a folding boarding step, storage lockers, and Airstream badging. Additional equipment includes dual tongue-mounted propane tanks, an antenna, a roof-top solar battery maintainer, and shore connections for power and water. Work performed under current ownership included installing an outdoor shower and LED bulbs as well as replacing the window screens, marker lamp lenses, propane valve, and rear storage compartment door. A dent is present on the left-rear body panel, and perforations are visible on the panels aft of the wheel wells. The seller notes that the left-front window has delaminated.

The single-axle chassis rolls on white steel wheels that wear polished covers and are wrapped in Power King tires, and a spare is mounted to the underside. The trailer is equipped with a tongue jack, a seven-pin trailering harness, and a breakaway safety device. Stopping power is provided by electric drum brakes, and the axle, brakes, and a belly panel were replaced in 2014. The seller notes that the shock absorbers are in need of replacement.

The interior is outfitted with a kitchenette, a dinette, a sofa, and a bathroom. The dinette features wraparound seating upholstered in beige cloth, and the table can be lowered to form a sleeping surface. Work performed during the refurbishment involved repairing the rear subfloor and replacing the plumbing, flooring, refrigerator, kitchen sink, window cranks, and waste tanks. A dining table was also installed at that time along with a passive ceiling vent. The flooring is warped near the entry door and bathroom entrance, and stains are visible on the upholstery.

The kitchenette is equipped with a stainless steel sink, a Dometic dual-fuel refrigerator, a Magic Chef cooktop and oven, an exhaust vent, a 120-volt power outlet, and laminate countertops. Storage consists of overhead cabinets, a vertical pantry, and two lower cabinets. Two power-operated ceiling vents are mounted overhead, and the adjacent sofa folds flat into a sleeping surface that measures 77″ long and 48″ wide. House equipment installed during the refurbishment includes a 120-volt electrical panel, a WFCO 600-watt power supply/charger, a Dometic air conditioner, and an Atwood tankless water heater. Work performed in 2023 reportedly involved replacing the house battery and the water heater thermostat. The seller notes that the air heater does not work, and the operating condition of the oven is unknown. The painting and book shown in the picture above are not included in the sale.

The wet-bath bathroom was constructed during the refurbishment and is equipped with a toilet, a tethered showerhead, a hinged window, storage compartments, a privacy curtain, and a waterproof curtain.
