Deep in the rural heart of Russia, an amazing discovery has been made. A quantity of 500 Soviet era deadstock Smena 8m cameras has been unearthed inside a old warehouse (right behind the horse stables). Whether these were meant to be part of an enormous time capsule or stockpiled for a future day of urgent retro Lomography, we’ll never know. But we can say this: the whole quantity has been bought and sent to our Lomographic Headquarters. These little plastic and metal beauties are untouched, unspoiled, and safe inside their original packaging. As an original deadstock Smena is one of the most sought after jewels in the world of Russian cameras, many of you already know what this means:

Your Smena would appreciate nothing more than a steady diet of bright, cheerful, and somewhat fattening 35mm films. Don’t starve the baby, give it a hefty dose of what it really wants with one of the three primo choices below:

Agfa Vista 100
A great basic color negative with awesome saturation and especially good red tones.

Fuji Sensia 100
Open your eyes for huge greenish/red/cream color casts and enormous contrast when this guy is cross processed. Best for bright sunlight or nighttime long exposure city shots.

Fuji Neopan 1600
Leave the tripod at home! With your aperture dialed into f/4, this film is fast enough to handhold your camera for shake free shots in low indoor and outdoor lights. Huge grain lends that film noir look too!
